This week, we spoke with Technical Sales Manager, Tom Sinar, about his role at Powell Gee. Tom also discussed what he enjoys outside of work – including his ownership of an American football team!
What is your role at Tibbetts Group?
“As Technical Sales Manager for Powell Gee, my role entails business development, account management, and giving product application advice. I regularly meet with customers and prospects either face-to-face, over the phone or online.
“I enjoy providing training for colleagues and customers; I can answer any question regarding our products. Common queries include where our products can be fitted onto a building and which product is the most appropriate choice for the customer’s project.”
What is your favourite aspect of your role?
“My favourite aspect is helping customers find solutions to their problems. By doing this, I’m helping to promote Powell Gee as a reliable and informative supplier to the roofing and cladding industry.”
What encouraged you to go into this career?
“Early on, I learned that the construction industry is a challenging but rewarding industry to be in. I started in Internal Sales, which involved filing and processing orders. I developed into that role and then moved into External Sales. During this time, I enjoyed exploring a technical role and eventually joined Powell Gee in my current position. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!”
What are your future projects or goals?
“To continue learning and improving every single day, pushing Powell Gee to be the go-to supplier for everything roofing and cladding.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
“I’ve got an almost three-year-old son, so realistically 99% of my free time goes towards time with him! I enjoy taking him to swimming lessons, playing football at the park, and family time.”
Do you follow a sports team?
“I support West Brom, following in the footsteps of my Dad and Grandad.
“I also own a small part of an American football (soccer) team – they’re called PDX FC and they’re based in Portland, Oregon. I’ve had a stake in the club for about three-and-a-half years. They’re a fan-owned club, playing in the fourth tier of the US football pyramid.”
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
“Either Spain or the Faroe Islands, I’d say.”
What’s something that you’ve always wanted to try or learn?
“I’d love to learn to fly. It must be pretty good to be able to say that you’re a pilot. Although, I’d be scared to fly the plane!”
